"Why the certainty? Why the cockiness? Well, there is that gorilla."

During the 2004 election, didn't it seem a bit odd that the Bushcabal were busily finding new ways to keep people out of rallies? A bizarre about-face strategy for a campaign that, from the outside, had no clear guarantee of victory at all. I mean, the whole point of going on the road with an honest campaign is to get people to come to rallies and speeches, and get your candidate heard. Right?

I was suspicious then, and I'm suspicious now. I think the Bushcabal had no need of rallies beyond what could be staged and broadcast convincingly. In fact, I think they had no need of voters at all. They knew they would win, with or without them, and "without" was even easier. Then their candidate didn't even have to smell good. He could stink it up as usual.

As this article by Anthony Wade at OpEdNews points out, we need to be putting our efforts into election reform. Sure bringing down Rove and Rumsfeld would be sweet, but you're dreaming if you think it will make any difference.

Protecting our elections is the only thing that matters now. Make no mistake. Our democracy is threatened. Patriots need to take heed of the warning.

Thank you for these links. It is very disturbing what is going on right now.

And I'm being very restrained by typing "disturbing" - as I feel like screaming at the top of my lungs!

And I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to make all this "blogging energy" more productive. It seems like we only talk to each other. Isn't there a way to get our voices heard by others?

I'm especially thinking of the mom down in Crawford, TX trying to get a face to face with Bush. (Of course, they won't let her close -- she's 5 miles away)

Is there a way for all of us to lend her support?

Sorry for the rambling comment. I am enraged this morning.

I think there are a few things we can do. For one, we have to become more visible.

This is especially true for those of us in red states. There are a lot of us out there, as blogging attests, but we can't see each other, and we feel isolated in a sea of black W stickers.

Perception is everything; and now is the time. We have to get the perception out there that there is a huge groundswell against the administration --- which I believe there is, it's just not visible enough to the outside. As long as we stay hidden, we will never have the power. We have to get out from behind our keyboards and do something visible.

If we can make it "conventional wisdom" that the administration is hated, and the country is burgeoning with motivated liberals, the administration cannot steal elections secretly. They would have to do it blatantly and that is much harder to do.

You're not the only one, Ob La. Harper's has more information here (this is an excerpt from the August issue, now on newstands).

And Jill, one thing you can do when surrounded by a sea of W stickers is make sure they see some liberal-gadfly stickers! Ob La's got some great ones (Genuine PAL) available, but there are tons out there. Buy 'em, stick 'em, and let the world know what you believe.
